Shōchū is a liquor native to Japan, commonly distilled from barley, sweet potatoes, or rice containing approximately 25% alcohol by volume. There are also multiple-distilled shōchū, which are used in mixed drinks and are much stronger at 35% alcohol by volume. Shōchū is weaker than whisky, rum and vodka but stronger than wine and most sake.
The history of shōchū is sort of unclear but some believe it was primarily used for medicinal purposes like most distilled spirits since the 9th century.
Kakushigura is my favorite shōchū because of its great aroma. Maybe the fact that it's aged in oak casks has something to do with it. Hakutake Shirro Kome and Torikai Kome shōchū are great as well, all three are highly recommended on the rocks, straight no chaser, and preferably with a cigar.

Yes you can, as well as the other two, not very expensive either. It's nice to treat the palate to something different especially something on the lite side.
