The Death of the Diplomaticos #5.
Diplomáticos, notably, the No. 5, and apparently the brand, established post-revolution 1966, is on the dreaded discontinued list to meet the same end as the Ramon Allones Petit Corona, 898 and other great Cuban cigars. Intended as a less expensive alternative to Montecristo and released in similar vitolas (No. 1 through 5 and later the Especiales in the late 70's), Diplomaticos have a different and distinct profile to Montecristo, in my opinion. This brand has unfortunately been reduced to a single cigar, the No. 2 and may be gone completely the next time the Hatchet Man comes around.

Yeah, a real shame what Habanos s.a. is doing with their marketing.
ReplyDeleteOld school, classic profiles and shapes are eliminated, while the market becomes large ring cigars.
Far too many "special releases", "limited" stuff at high prices.
The Diplomatic was such a nice cigar......
The Edicion Limitada and Regional Release are more trinket than cigar. Other than the original release Partagas Serie D No. 3 and Cohiba Piramide, Partagas Piramide and the Por Larranaga Lonsdale, they have pretty much sucked, in my opinion.
