My compai turned me on to Smuttynose Old Brown Dog Ale a few years ago so picked up a case during my first visit to Shangy's Beer Authority in Emmaus PA. If I had to compare this beer to a cigar, it would be a well-aged Bolivar or Partagas with its hints of sweetness, never sour and great balance. Some nice light caramel, chocolate and leather flavors come through as well. I'm looking forward to trying their Really Old Brown Dog Ale.
While my visit to Shangy's was less than optimal for reasons I will not get into (in the interest of protecting the innocent) their selection and prices are excellent. Next time you are headed toward Dorney Park make a small detour, you will feel like a kid in a candy store.
